Check this out, “Don’t Make it Wierd.”

I recently happened upon a great blog! OK, ‘Grace,’ aka ‘Karen,’ aka ‘Karen Grace,’ at MSGraceful…NOT! reblogged an incredible post by this blogger. I was reading this post, and I felt understood!!! I agreed with his words. I agreed with the sentiment. I was utterly gobsmacked when I finished reading the post! (And I continue to re-read this incredible post!)

Sam at Don’t Make it Wierd is not to be missed!

Check out  Taking Stock of Positives and Possibilities!  Click on that title!!!

Don’t forget to come back here and tell me what you think! Did it speak to you? Hurry, I have to know!!!

Kim Being Tom … Being Tom

I know! The title is confusing. My friend Tom (at Tom being Tom) has bestowed upon me the name of one of Santa’s eight reindeer! I am now known in some circles as Donner. Is Donner cool? I hope Donner is cool.

And I received an award! The Blogger Recognition Award! It really is an honor! The Rules… we are to ‘tell a tale’ of how we began blogging and give new bloggers a piece of advice! Then nominate UP TO 15 bloggers.

Thank you, Tom! If you haven’t, check out this gifted writer’s site! Tom Being Tom. I will accept this award and do my best! First here is a little example of Tom’s work;

“My advice? Copy everything you see here, post it somewhere else, and give me all due credit. You can call your blog, “Me Being Tom Being Tom.” Really, there will be no blog like it in the world, unless, of course, 12 of you do it, then there would be only 12 of them like it in the world.” -Tom at Tom Being Tom

Here we go, I’ll begin with a little tale…

I was in a complete mental shut down. I had undergone seven surgeries in quick succession. My brain was mush! I could not put a sentence together. I could not think clearly. Could I write complete sentences? Could I think clearly enough to put down words on paper and have them make sense? I began to color… then journal… and then, BLOG. (The jury may still be out on the making sense part!)

It was a painstaking process. I had to re-learn how to think clearly. I had to process my thinking and put those thoughts into a format that would ultimately be a blog post. I found one mentor, then another! (Both will be nominated.) Then I began following a few blogs. I will never forget the feeling of communicating with people. I was writing! I was communicating! I was absolutely passionate about this ‘thing’ called a blog! From then on, I was hooked.

A piece of advice for new bloggers.

I’m a chronic illness blogger, so for those with personal blogs, I may have some advice! First and always, write for yourself. If no one else reads a post you’ve written, it doesn’t matter. Your blog will become a piece of your history. This will be a record of your life! Don’t worry about likes, follows, comments, or becoming a ‘brand.’ (A brand… really?) You may not be everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s OK! Your tribe is out there, and they will find you! So write your story!

(And probably don’t post every day because you become VERY difficult to follow…)

My nominees.

My mentors, who I’ve followed through thick and thin for years, are Wendy and Mer! These two women have always had my back! They have been encouraging my writing from the very start. I have learned much from these two women. I hope you will both accept this recognition award!

Wendy at Picnic With Ants

Mer at MerBear’s World

I would also like to nominate some of the very first bloggers I ever followed and continue to follow! I am still amazed by the quality blogs you four women put out! I thank each and every one of you! Please accept this recognition award.

Terri at Reclaiming Hope

Gwen at Beauty of Imperfection: The Kintsukuroi Life

Caz at Invisibly Me

Bella at Thoughts ‘n Life

My life is better because of these bloggers! There are many more bloggers I am proud to call ‘friend.’ Some of you do not ‘do’ awards; others will simply smile and nod… you are all my tribe!

Moody Monday (A Discord Between Sisters)

A Discord Between Sisters

I have been understood and misunderstood.

I have done the same.

I’m not sure how to fix any of it

It certainly cannot be changed.

People suggest;

“moving on” or “going from here”

But that does not fix the hurt

or change the memories.

I think you must accept the hurt

and forgive the lack of understanding.

Revisiting old wounds

does no good.

Strive to do better,

be better.

That is my promise.

That is what I will do.

Let’s Get Married! (Magic Memory)

The hubby and I started dating a bit later in life… I was 37, and he was 43. (Yes, we have known each other our entire lives.) Once we began dating in September of 2003, we moved in together about six months later and were married in October of 2004. We already knew each other’s families, and there wasn’t any mystery or surprises… but there was love, moving from loving each other as only friends to being in love with each other. (There is a big difference.)

The proposal…

Me: Are we thinking we are going to have kids?

Jeff: I don’t know.

Sure if you want to.

I want to be married.

Because we have 15 nieces and nephews, who are looking to us to set an example!

Let’s start planning…

(Romantic, no?)

Picking the venue…

Me: We should get married at the Boy Scout camp.

Jeff: You’d agree to that? Because I think we should. It’s perfect for a wedding! I’ve always thought that’d be the perfect place!

We can’t just do Vegas? Little white chapel? Elvis impersonator? If it was good enough for Brittany Spears… (Kim sings) 🎵🎶 I’m a genie in a bottle baby… 🎶🎵

No! No way, I’m not interested. We will get married with our families surrounding us.

At the Boy Scout camp?

Securing the venue… Camp Wilderness Boy Scout Camp.

Jeff: This is perfect. Chapel in the Pines.

Kim: This is gonna take some work! I think I want to be a genie in a bottle

Alright! This will be just great!

(To be continued…)

Let’s remember to thank Brittany for my vocals! (Christina!)

I’m a genie in a bottle. Brittany Spears Christina Aguilera!!!

Moody Monday (My Days)

My Days

My days dissolve

one bumping into the next,

a struggle ensues.

I try to stand clear

but my heart engaged,

 an ambush of time.

I split in two.

Today materializes as a memory

tomorrow never arrives,

out loud.

I wait for anyone

to appear,

and exorcize my fears.

The Intruder in the Night (Magic Memory)

I have fibromyalgia and some coexisting conditions. I experience a cognitive dysfunction known as fibro fog. I need to do mind work every day. When a memory strikes, I write about it! It’s ‘magic’ in my mind, simply because I remember it!

I had to be 13, maybe 14 years old. My parents were out of town at a state school board conference. I was left at home to care for my two younger siblings. A boy we’ll call ‘Jon,’ was one year younger than me, and my sister, who I’ll refer to as ‘Leah’ was six years my junior. (The eldest three siblings, graduated and had moved out.)

It was warm, I really remember the heat. We had lightning storms with blinding sheets of pouring rain. It was about two in the morning, and I heard rustling around in my little sister’s room. I got up and went to check on her. She was going through her dresser drawers in the dark. [OK, this is weird, I wonder if she’s been turned into a child zombie.]

“Hey Leah, what are you doing?”

“I need to find my long johns.”

“Are you cold?”

“I need to find my long johns.”

I began searching through her drawers with her. I was sweating! Why did she need her long johns? Then I hear the wood crack on a step leading to the upstairs where my sister and I were. I knew my brother was asleep in his room in the basement, so hollering for his help wouldn’t work.

“Can we look for your long johns in the morning?”

“Back into bed, quickly.”

The next crack of the wood stair was closer. I figured the nighttime invader had to be close to arriving upstairs where we were. I shut the door to my little sister’s room behind me. [I’m sure we will be murdered at this point, but I wasn’t going to let this intruder past me.] I walked to the end of the hall towards the stairs picking up a baseball bat on my way. I positioned myself and got ready to take the perfect swing and knock the intruder down the stairs.

There was the intruder! He was rising up from the last step. I stepped into my swing, stopping just short of his head.

“Jesus Kim, what are you doing!?!?”

“Jon! What the hell are you doing out of bed!?!?”

“What are you doing with a bat?”

“What… good lord I could’ve killed you.”

“I was hungry, then I heard you and Leah, and I wanted to see what you were doing.”

“Go to bed, Jon! NOW!”

I slept fitfully that night, and when I woke in the morning, I went into my sister’s room and said, “Let’s look for those long johns then…”

She had no idea what I was talking about…

My Awards … Deuce!

Sierra from All My Woes has nominated me for two blogger awards. The Blogger Recognition Award and the Sunshine Blogger Award. It is with pleasure that I accept both awards from this outstanding blogger. This is a lady who believes she is not a writer. Well, I have news, Sierra, you are definitely a writer! Check out her blog!

I will let the Blogger recognition questions stand as is, and I will ask 11 new questions for the Sunshine Blogger Award. I will nominate 11 bloggers to receive BOTH of these awards.

Screen Shot 2019-06-04 at 10.42.56 AM

  • Thank the nominator, and publish a post on your blog about receiving the Blogger Recognition Award. Make sure to provide a link to the nominator’s blog in your post.
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  • Nominate 10-15 other bloggers for this award, and inform them of their nomination.

I. How I got started

Well… let’s see how many of you remember this story! I will not be offended if you skip ahead! I ended up in the hospital in September of 2012. I was diagnosed with idiopathic pancreatitis. I spent seven days in the hospital. I spent the following two years being hospitalized and having seven surgeries. To make a long story short, I lost my ability to write complete sentences. I also lost most of my memory from that time.

I began blogging to learn to write again! Slowly and carefully, my writing skills returned.  I even published a book! If you want a good read with space to record your thoughts pick up a copy! 😉

The Shadow Boxers, Fighting Fibromyalgia, Your Personal Journal

II. Two pieces of advice for new bloggers

Two pieces of advice… let’s see.

  1. You do YOU but don’t forget to read other blogs. Comment or at least give a ‘like’ so the blogger realizes you visited their site. We all work hard on our posts, and once it’s published, we want to hear what other’s think.
  2. Write from the heart. This is a personal blog. If you want to organize, promote, or sell a bunch of products that mean nothing to you, you can still blog. You’ll get followers that do the same. But. You won’t experience the true meaning of blogging, and more importantly, understand what it’s like to be part of a tribe of bloggers who support each other no matter what. That is truly a genuine experience personal bloggers get to be a part of.

Memorial Day (My Brother, My Soldier)

My brother passed away on the United States Army Base in San Antonio, Texas, at the Brooke Army Medical Center on August 18, 2003. He was 37. He loved the Army, serving his country…

My Brother, My Soldier

We are so far from home,

he and I.

Engulfed in a land so foreign to us,

a city within a city.

At times he is stubborn

and full of mischief,

teasing and laughing

the brother I know.

There are times when he is reflective,

speaking as if

communicating with

I would guess, the Divine.

He is so thankful for the help he receives

and so apologetic when he is in need.

He loves and hugs all who are near,

Only they and I experience the fear.

His body tires and his eyes close,

he puts his hand in mine.

I wait silently for him to wake,

and I greet him with a smile.

I tell my brother he is a good soldier.

I tell my brother I love him so.

I tell my brother God is with him.

I tell my soldier it is okay if he is called to go…

Moody Monday (Emma Blue)

I will try my best to explain…

I have had a nickname since high school, my friends began calling me Emma. (Long story.) Many of you know I wish my name was C.C. Rockefeller but we don’t always get what we want. C.C. Rockefeller would be the confident, smart ass, public persona part of me. (FYI: I don’t have nor have I ever been diagnosed with multiple personalities but I do respect those who have.) The part of me who is Emma is the best friend, the listener, the compassionate one.

Emma Blue is just the best parts of me, all rolled up into one. I love that she has no fear. She could care less what others think and is never one to turn down a challenge! She is fun! She is who I long to be.

Emma Blue

is that you?

Once she’s here

I disappear.

She is laughter

and revelry!

She is sunshine

and the moon.

Emma Blue

it’s your turn.

I need to laugh

and feel the sun.

I want to dance

under the smiling moon.

Emma Blue

I call…

Once she’s here,

I can disappear.
